Wellspring’s mission is to provide support and skills to people facing challenges to their financial, physical or emotional well-being to help them achieve independence and self-sufficiency.
The mission of the Social Service League of Cohasset identifies and assists the most needy and least served people of all ages within the communities of Cohasset, Hingham, Hull, Norwell and Scituate …to create, develop, and support programs that…have a positive and beneficial impact.
Help for senior citizens is out there. Two local organizations—with similar missions— have linked in a resourceful way to provide service and support to the elderly in our communities. Senior citizens on the South Shore, like many in our community are experiencing daunting economic uncertainties. Seniors also face specific challenges that effect their health and independence. For example, seniors are finding they can’t afford their eye glasses, hearing aids, prescriptions or necessary dental care. The problems are daunting, and many of our neighbors in Cohasset, Hingham, Hull, Norwell and Scituate don’t know where to find assistance.
Professionals at Wellspring, in collaboration with the Social Service League, have been working together to deliver help to those that need it. In addition to helping seniors sift through the complexities of Medicare A, B, & D and Medicaid, Wellspring counselors offer other services dedicated to helping seniors remain comfortable and secure in their own homes. Wellspring counselors are available five days a week, and see seniors in two locations offering assistance including facilitating online applications for fuel assistance and food stamps.
According to last month’s report of the US Census Bureau, the 65-and-older population is headed for a 40% increase in the next five years. The senior population is exploding and expanded senior services are critical in order to preserve the quality of life and independence of this vulnerable segment of our community. Wellspring and the Social Service League of Cohasset are eager to help.
